There are many reasons why relationships/ marriages become strained or in difficulty. The sooner you can recognise there is a problem the better. Often clients wait until things have reached crisis point and therapy is then "Last chance saloon"
Issues may include:-
The impact of becoming parents
"I love you but I'm not in love with you"
Your relationship has always had difficulties and these have become too painful to bear.
Sometimes its hard to talk, you never get time, or if you try, it always ends in an argument so issues never get resolved and resentment builds.
You may be facing a dilemma, such as whether or not to separate and how this will affect your children.
You may have issues relating to your sexuality, have difficulty forming relationships or are struggling to come to terms with a relationship that has ended.
Professional counselling can help resolve these issues. Working with couples requires specialist training. Make sure you choose a therapist who is qualified to do so.
To receive counselling you don't have to be married, living with someone or in a relationship and it makes no difference if you are lesbian, gay, bi-sexual or trans.
I offer counselling for young people between the ages of 10-25 on issues such as parental separation and divorce; bullying and teenage related anxieties. Young people often find it hard to talk to parents who maybe hurting and vulnerable themselves. Friends are often too young to offer support and help they need. Teenagers may find it awkward to raise other dilemmas and anxieties at home. Young people can refer themselves or through their parents/carers and sometimes via school.(I am DBS checked)
Sometimes relationships and communication breaks down in families. Talking together in a neutral environment with professional intervention can help to resolve this. Being qualified as a family counsellor also enables me to invite parents or other family members in as part of a young persons counselling journey, if this is relevant appropriate AND with the express permission of the young person.
I see clients on an individual basis for relationship and non-relationship issues. Maybe you need some time and space to explore a dilemma or difficulty without your partner, or your partner has chosen not to come for counselling.
Other personal counselling is offered to help deal with loss or bereavement, anxiety, self esteem, work or issues from your past that are unresolved and troubling you.
